Toyota FCHV-F with Fuel Cells

In the autumn of 2005, during the CeMAT exhibition in Hannover, Germany, Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO)  presented the world’s first hybrid system with fuel cells to be used in forklift trucks. The visitors of the exhibition were able to become acquainted with the test vehicle Toyota FCHV-F (Fuel-Cell Hybrid Vehicle-Forklift). It is expected that after the implementation of the fuel cells in mass production one of their main shortcomings - their high initial price - will be eliminated. The technology allows for electricity generation without the use of internal combustion process and the related to them emission of carbon dioxide. In addition the power supply is constant and ensures the maintenance of stable working parameters.
These characteristics turn the fuel cells into an ideal solution for the working conditions in big distribution centers where the forklifts are used around the clock. The bigger factories using hybrid vehicles may build their own stations for hydrogen refueling.
